Bookbinding

Each month, learn a different way to make handmade books, absorbing the use of basic bookbinding tools and techniques along the way. You'll leave able to make additional books on your own.

Section 1A, Piano Hinge Books use stick-like supports for the spine: twigs, chopsticks, pencils, wires, etc. Bring any specific 'sticks' you'd like to work with; other materials will be supplied.

Section 2A, Flag & Tunnel Books: Flag books open up to flaps and varied page layouts, while Tennel Books open to become 3-dimensional dioramas. Bring a magazine or some pictures to cut up and include.

Section 3A, Asian Stab Bindings make elegant, simple books with an exposed spine and a decoratie cover. We'll complete both a soft and a hard-cover book in class.

Section 4A, Reclaimed Books: Turn an old book into a tresure box or transformative work of art. Bring several books and collage materials to class.
