Maloof-Inspired Bench
Co-sponsored by North Bennet Street School
Sam Maloof was an icon of 20th century artistry, making furniture known for its clean yet fluid lines. Spend a summer week making a Maloof–inspired one–person bench with a sculpted seat. As you continue to increase your comfort with basic tools, also learn to make plugged tenon joints, sculpt with rasp and spokeshave, and sharpen hand tools. Conclude with an oil–wax finish.
Note: This prototype was made by Robert Worth in walnut. The class will work with poplar, a light–colored wood.

See photos from this workshop last summer, showing the process from start to finish.
Hot Summer • Cool Shop
Maloof–Inspired Bench is one of our Summer Intensives. Immerse yourself! Set aside two to five summer days in our air–conditioned shop. Leave your work out each night and start right up in the morning with minimal set–up and clean–up. Upholster a chair, turn bowls, or build an elegant piece of furniture from start to finish.
