Directions

Schoolhouse

T - Take the Orange Line to Green Street or Forest Hills. The walk to the Eliot School, about ½ mile from either station, takes about 10 minutes. From Forest Hills, you may take the 39 or 48 bus, a brief ride, to the Soldiers Monument. For walking after dark, we prefer Green Street station.

Bus - The stop at the Soldiers Monument, where Eliot, South and Centre Streets meet, serves busses # 38 (Wren St-Forest Hills), 39 (Copley Square-Forest Hills), 41 (JFK-Dudley-Jackson-Centre St) and 48 (JP Loop). MBTA travel page has details.

Bicycle - BLUEBikes station at Curtis Hall Community Center, at the intersection of Centre and Eliot Streets, opposite the Soldiers Monument.

Car - Please note that Eliot Street runs one-way from the Jamaicaway toward Centre Street.

From the west: Take Rte 9 East all the way through Brookline. Turn right onto the Jamaicaway, following the sign for Rte 1. (If you meet the trolley tracks at Huntington Ave, you’ve gone just a little too far on Rte 9.) As you pass Jamaica Pond on your right, crossing the light at Pond Street, get in the left lane. Eliot Street is on your left, but because you cannot turn left across the busy Jamaicaway you will need to backtrack.  Just after the Pond ends, you must double back, turning left via a small rotary. This will lead you back the way you came. Turn right at the second light onto Eliot Street. The Eliot School is ¾ of the way down the block on the right.

From the north/95 South: Take Exit 20 onto Rte 9 East. Then follow the directions above.

From the north/93 South: Take Exit 18 and continue straight across Massachusetts Ave onto Melnea Cass Blvd. After just under 1 mile, turn left at a light onto Tremont St; this turns immediately into Columbus Ave, passing Roxbury Community College on your left. After 1 mile, turn right at a light onto Centre St. Now you will wind a little through Jamaica Plain: Take the first left onto Lamartine. At the end of Lamartine, turn right onto Green. At the first light, turn left onto Centre St. At the Soldiers Monument fork, merge right as Centre St diverges from South St. Take the first right onto Holbrook St, then right onto Dane St, and right onto Eliot Street. The Eliot School will be almost immediately on your right. You may wish to park on Holbrook St. and walk through our yard to the front of the school.

From Cambridge/Somerville: Cross the Charles River via the BU Bridge. Exit the bridge by crossing straight across Commonwealth Avenue onto Park Drive, which swings briefly left then right before meeting Beacon St. Cross Beacon St, staying in the right lane. Veer right onto the Riverway; this becomes the Jamaicaway. As you pass Jamaica Pond on your right, crossing the light at Pond Street, get in the left lane.

From VFW Parkway: Take VFW Parkway North/East to the end. Turn left onto Centre Street, passing Faulkner Hospital on the left and the Arnold Arboretum on the right. At the rotary, go ¾ of the way around, exiting onto the Jamaicaway heading north. Turn right at the second light onto Eliot Street. The Eliot School is ¾ of the way down the block on the right.

From the south/93N: From 93 North, take Exit 11 and continue on Granite Avenue. Turn left onto Gallivan Blvd/Rte 203. Where you see Norfolk Hardware on the left, Gallivan Blvd merges with Morton St. Continue on Morton St/Rte 203 across Blue Hill Ave, past Forest Hills Cemetery on the left. At the rotary, take the first exit onto the Jamaicaway, heading north. Turn right at the second light onto Eliot Street. The Eliot School is ¾ of the way down the block on the right.

Parking - There is usually plenty of free parking available on the streets surrounding our schoolhouse. Watch for street cleaning signs from April through November. You may also find space in the free lighted lot on Thomas Street behind Blanchards Liquors, one block away.

Annex

T - Take the Orange line to Stony Brook Station. Exit above ground and take a left on Boylston Street. Turn right on Amory Street and we are about 1/4 block along, on the right.

Bicycle - BLUEBikes station opposite Stony Brook Station.

Car -

From the South of Boston: Take 93 North to Exit 18 (Mass. Ave. and Roxbury exit). Continue straight down Melnea Cass Boulevard. Turn left on Tremont Street (Ruggles T Station and Northeastern University will be on your right when you turn onto Tremont). Follow Tremont Street through several lights. Tremont Street becomes Columbus Avenue. Take a right on Amory Street, following its curves and continuing for about 1/4 mile. After you cross Boylston Street, watch for our sign on the right, and turn there into our small parking lot.

From North of Boston: Take 93 South to Exit 18 (Mass. Ave. and Roxbury exit). Follow directions above.

From Centre Street in downtown JP: Take Seaverns St. to the 4-way stop sign at the intersection with Everett and Lamartine Streets. Continue straight, staying on Seaverns through the intersection until the street ends at Amory Street. Turn left on Amory Street and continue about 1/2 mile. Just past the Brewery Complex, you will find our Annex on the left, through a small parking lot.

Parking - We do have a small lot attached to our building, but parking is very limited. You may use any available marked space. If space is not available, you can usually find parking along nearby side streets. Make sure to check for street cleaning signs.

Art Modeling

Art-Model Inquiries

The Eliot School regularly offers classes/workshops that feature live art-models. The classroom environment is professional and welcoming, and the students have a range of experience.

Our instructors seek models with a variety of body-types, backgrounds, and abilities. We require reliability, the ability to hold a pose, and agreement to the Eliot School's policies for all models.

If you are interested in modeling for a class or workshop, please complete the application form, located here: Apply. Our instructors will reach out for more information, if desired.

Donations of Goods & Tools

Donation Inquiries

The Eliot School appreciates offers of donation, whether it's art supplies, gently-used tools/equipment, or furniture appropriate for refinishing. We have very limited storage space, so we ask that you complete the Donation Inquiry Form and allow us to reach out for more information, if desired. We appreciate your help in keeping our grounds safe and beautiful by not leaving unsolicited donations on the property. Thank you for thinking of us!
