Basic Sewing II ***NEW***

Basic Sewing I and Basic Sewing II both fulfill our prerequisite for intermediate and open workshop classes. If you need to learn how to use a sewing machine for the first time, Basic Sewing I is for you. Basic Sewing II will take over from there. You may start with either class. Sharpen your fundamental skills as you workgiven plans through to completion.

For students who already know how to use a basic sewing machine. Work on your own basic projects as you advance your skills. Completion qualifies students for intermediate classes. Prerequisite: Experience threading and using a sewing machine. Limit 6 students

Please plan to use our machines. If time allows, the instructor may invite you to bring your own to the final session.


Bring to the first class:


  • Class 66 bobbins (plastic; please bring at least 3)
  • Dressmaker shears (best quality are Fiskars or Gingher)
  • Paper scissors
  • Assorted machine sewing needles
  • Assorted hand sewing needles
  • Common pins
  • Pin cushion
  • Seam ripper
  • Dressmaker’s pencil or tailor’s chalk
  • Tape measure 60”
  • Ruler
  • Dark and light color thread for basting
  • Thimble
  • Needle threader
  • Sewing gauge
  • Tracing Paper
  • Fabric will be discussed in class.
  • Find out where to buy supplies.
