Basic Woodworking: Box 1S22
Learn fundamentals as you work a given plan through to completion. With a focus on six essential power tools, learn properties of wood and shop etiquette, interpret a plan, cut and mill stock and use basic machine joinery. This class qualifies students for intermediate classes and for Woodworking Open Shop. It is our gateway to more advanced woodworking. Complete attendance is required to fulfill this requirement. Annie Meyer
Annie Meyer is a studio woodworker, designer, and craftsperson. Annie graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Industrial Design in 2013 and from Cranbrook Academy of Art with an MFA in 3D Design in 2021. They have shown work in galleries and museums including Wasserman Projects (Detroit, MI), the Fuller Craft Museum (Brockton, MA), and the Cranbrook Art Museum (Bloomfield Hills, MI). Annie has taught courses and workshops at various locations including Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Boston, MA), The Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts (Jamaica Plain, MA), and The Fuller Craft Museum (Brockton, MA).
Annie’s practice is a proposal for nonbinary objecthood. They interrogate how human bodies are oriented and physically altered through interactions with the built world. How the objects we shape, in turn, shape us. How we are, by extension, arranged by the designers of these objects. Annie’s work offers expanded ways of thinking about body, gender, and self. Post-normativity and fluidity are encouraged through objects that hold multiple orientations. Both solitary ways of being, and new ways of holding one another, are reimagined.
All materials will be provided in class. Materials cost included in tuition.
