Beginning Drawing 1W20

For people who haven’t drawn in a while or want to get started. Learn fundamentals and gain confidence as you draw with a variety of media and approaches. This class meets at the Eliot School Annex, 253 Amory St., Jamaica Plain. Limit 10 students

Robert Collins

Bob Collins began his career as an industrial and commercial designer and illustrator, and now paints and teaches full time. He is an adjunct faculty member at Rhode Island College, Montserrat College of Art, and is currently the anatomy instructor at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He has also taught at Boston University, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Brookline Art Center.

Bob has exhibited throughout New England at galleries including Bernard Toale Gallery and Bromfield Gallery (Boston), at DeBloise Gallery (Newport RI) and as a New England Currents artist at Danforth Art. His work is included in many private and corporate collections including Hallmark, Sears Roebuck & Co., and AMI/Verilyte Corporation. 

He received his BFA and MFA in Painting from Boston University.

Materials & Tools:

Soft and extra-soft vine charcoal, 1 package each

Kneaded eraser

Hard white eraser

Newsprint pad 18” x 24”

The following materials will be discussed in class. You do NOT need to purchase these before the first class:

18” x 24” pad of white drawing paper (Your choice: smooth or textured. We recommend smooth paper. We will discuss paper choices in class.)

1 box Charcoal

1 stick of white chalk or charcoal


Can of spray fixative 

Roll of masking tape

Optional (to be discussed in class):

One container of waterproof drawing ink

A few watercolor brushes to be used with the drawing ink (at least 1 large round hair brush for washes and one smaller brush for line work)
