Clone Your Clothes


Create a sewing pattern from an existing garment, and clone a garment you love. Learn how to properly trace your garment to create a pattern, and how to measure critical points on each garment for precise duplication. Understand the importance of grain line, pattern symbols and seam allowances when creating a pattern. Prerequisites: Basic Sewing I or II or equivalent experience, and experience working with patterns. Limit 8 students

Basic Sewing I or II, or equivalent experience, and experience working with patterns.


  • Standard Scissors (NOT Gingham or other fabric scissors)
  • Awl
  • Scotch tape
  • 4H Pencils (2 to 3)
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • Dressmaker’s pencil (Blue)
  • Thumbtacks
  • Curved Ruler (Minimum 12”)
  • Dressmakers/Quilter's Ruler (18”)
  • Notcher or Single Hole Punch
  • Class 66 bobbins (plastic; please bring at least 3)
  • Dressmaker shears (best quality are Fiskars or Gingher)
  • Paper scissors
  • Assorted machine sewing needles
  • Assorted hand sewing needles
  • Common pins
  • Pin cushion
  • Seam ripper
  • Dressmaker’s pencil or tailor’s chalk
  • Tape measure 60”
  • Contrasting thread for basting
  • Thimble
  • Needle threader
  • Any required materials for garment:
  • Fabric
  • Matching thread
  • Zippers
  • Closures (buttons, hooks etc)
  • Tracing Paper (Roll, wide as possible 36"+ recommended)
