Combine the discipline of a traditional art with a contemporary approach to image-making. Treat each stroke as a choreography of movements. Using rice paper and ink, apply your practice to new forms. Taught by an inter-media artist whose work is rooted in Chinese calligraphy. Chinese language skill is not required. Limit 8 students
Wen-hao Tien is a visual artist whose art focuses on language and translation and explores culture and identity through a cross-cultural lens. She is also known for her contemporary Chinese calligraphy and painting.
Wen-hao grew-up in Taiwan and moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies. She began her academic pursuits with biomedical sciences, then moved into social studies and visual art. She works as Assistant Director of Boston University's Pardee School of Global & Regional Studies.
A longtime Cambridge resident, she spent 15 years working at Harvard University’s Asia Studies Center and earned a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University. She is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the Lesley University’s College of Art and Design.
