Handmade Long Bow 1F19

Make an American version of a traditional English longbow from a single piece of quarter-sawn ash with Dacron strings. Start with a review of shop safety and operation of basic power tools, wood selection and project layout. Construct a bowstring maker’s jig and a custom bowstring, then fit your final 68" bow. Test-fire your bow at a certified archery range in Milton, MA.

Please note: Class takes place 2 Sundays, Nov 10 & 17, 8am–2pm, followed by an afternoon at the archery range Sunday, Dec 1, 1–3pm.

Julio Fuentes

Julio Fuentes designs and creates laminated jewelry and other fine objects out of wood and other materials. The beer taps he designed and created are in use at Turtle Swamp Brewing in Jamaica Plain.

Julio also leads home improvement workshops for North Bennet Street School in conjunction with Boston’s Dept. of Neighborhood Development. For 15 years, he worked as Construction Supervisor at The Classic Group (Burlington, MA), a design-build firm focusing on high-end construction and remodeling. He now manages projects for Adams + Beasley Associates, Custom Builders. He has has been Scoutmaster and Cub Scout Den Leader in West Roxbury since 2004.

He is a graduate of the Preservation Carpentry Program at North Bennet Street School.
