Kids Woodworking: Build Your Own Toys (Ages 6-8) 1W27

For kids that want to learn the basics of woodworking by creating durable, unique toys from their imaginations!
During this six-week class, young woodworkers will build at least two projects with hand tools in an environment that emphasizes creativity and safety. They will begin by making simple pull-along toy animals. Then, they will progress to more complex toys in the form of action figures, puppets, and marionettes. In each project, students will learn how to design and then execute their ideas in wood.

Willow Trodden

Willow Trodden is an artist and craftsperson based in the Greater Boston area. She is a MassArt graduate and works primarily with wood and steel; her earlier work explores themes of implied and literal tension, and more recently has branched into a focus on form and material capabilities. In addition to creating conceptual work, she also practices as a furniture maker. She has offered her time as a teaching assistant for wood and metal shop classes and has volunteered at open-to-the-public aluminum castings as part of the MassArt Iron Corps. In terms of teaching woodworking, she prefers to problem-solve with students about ways to make their ideas come to life rather than to simplify.
