Mending Circle: Sew Together 2W23

Age Group:
Teens (17+), Adults

Learn to mend your clothes in this four-part community mending workshop led by natural dyer/visible mender Maggie Ruth Haaland.

Each week we will have an introduction into a specific mending technique (with focus on visible mending) and then we will sit and slow stitch together in community. Participants are asked to bring an item of their own to repair, and mending supplies will be available for use.

The winter months, after the busyness and "alive-ness" of Summer, are a wonderful time to slow down and work on our mending piles.

Mending can help us feel more connected to our wardrobes and offer additional life to beloved garments. It's a way of participating and creating a more sustainable world, by choosing to repair rather than throw something out and buy anew.

Slow stitching offers space and time to be with our thoughts (and neighbors) and make something beautiful in the process.

Sign up for the whole series or a single class!

Attendance not required for all sessions offered.

Tuition based on number of sessions selected during check-out.  Discounted tuition applied to registration for multiple sessions.

I wanted to improve my mending skills but most important for me was the consistency of meeting every week and being in community with others.  Maggie is an excellent educator!  She teaches and she allows herself to be taught.  She is extremely warm and works hard to create a sense of togetherness and that we are all learning from each other.  I have only taken a couple of other courses at Eliot, but among them this has been my favorite and I have signed up for the next series of 4 circles!
