Experiment with your own mixed media of choice, including fibers, 2-D, 3-D, paint, photography, collage, assemblage, drawing and more. This class works as an open studio to encourage self-expression, experimentation and idea-sharing through art making. Critique sessions and discussions will serve as inspiration and self-reflecction. Julia Csekö is an artist and curator, born in Colorado and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2018-19, she has implemented an exhibitions program at IBA’s Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, in Boston's South End, showcasing contemporary art by artists of Latin American origin/heritage, including artists working with Latin American subjects and aesthetics. Her work as an independent curator and organizer is centered on diversity, inclusion, community building, innovation, political engagement, experimentation and risk-taking.
Her own work is featured in collections including the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), Museum of Modern Art (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Centro Cultural São Paulo (Brazil), as well as in private collections in the United States and abroad.
