Sew Your Own Swimsuit ***NEW***

Use a swimwear pattern of your choice to create a custom-fit swimsuit. Learn how to adjust a pattern for fit and style, along with techniques specific to sewing with stretch fabric. Add lining and a foundation for structure, including bra cups (if needed). Open to all body types and genders. Limit 6 students

Ability to sew at an intermediate level




  • Class 66 bobbins (plastic; please bring at least 3 to class)
  • Singer brand or universal sewing machine needles, must be ball point for stretch fabrics
  • Dressmaker shears (Fiskars, Weiss or Gingher are recommended)
  • Paper scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Pin cushion or container for pins
  • Seam ripper
  • Tailor's chalk, chalk wheel, or water or air-erasable pen
  • Tape measure 60”
  • Thread to match your fashion fabric
  • Thimble (optional)
  • Needle threader (optional)
  • Safety pins
  • Tracing paper (large sheets or a roll, at least 18" wide)
  • Pencils and 2 different colored pens (sharpies work well)
  • Ruler (18" x 2" or 24" x 6" clear ruler is best for pattern making)
  • Recommended amount of four way stretch fabric for your project, plus 1 additional yard
  • Four way stretch lining fabric that is thinner than fashion fabric
  • Fabric with a similar stretch to be used for a muslin (optional)
  • Purchased Swimwear pattern
  • All notions and supplies listed on your pattern
  • Stretch lycra bias binding tape (optional)
  • Bra cups (optional)
  • Powernet fabric (optional)
