Slow Stitch: Quilting by Hand

    

Create a small wall quilt completely by hand. Disconnect from the tech-filled world, gather together to honor traditional craftsmanship and make something that looks freshly modern without the use of machines. Learn basic piecing, appliqué, basting, quilting and binding with mitered corners using basic hand stitches: running, back, ladder and whip stitch as well as “big stitch” quilting. Expect to complete the majority of the quilt in class, but you may need to do some stitching outside of class, depending on your personal pace. Limit 6 students

Quilting frame (wooden or plastic)

6 x 24” quilting ruler

Tailor’s chalk (or your preferred fabric marking tool)

Stick pins

Binding clips (optional)

46×36″ Craft size Quilter’s Dream cotton batting

All purpose cotton or hand sewing thread (1 color matching/1 color contrasting)

Perle cotton for hand quilting

1 ¼ yd backing fabric

¼ yd binding fabric

3 different fat quarters for quilt blocks, or 1/2 yd cuts of 3 different fabrics
