Jodi Schmidt coordinates our summer workshops for local community centers. She taught visual arts and woodworking through our School & Community Partnership Program at Mozart Elementary School and elsewhere.
Earlier, she spent eight years as the Executive Director of Extras for Creative Reuse, (formally ExCL, also known as ‘the recycle center’), before that, she taught art to children in Worcester and Melrose Public Schools.
Jodi was named Elementary Art Educator of the year by the Massachusetts Art Education Association in 2005. She has conducted workshops at the Boston Public Schools New Teacher Institute, the Museum of Fine Arts teachers’ program, Boston College Teachers for a New Era Institute and many out-of-school-time programs. She holds a Masters in Education with a concentration in Art from Framingham State College.
“As I tried to get more supplies for all art teachers in Boston, I always said that all children should have enough supplies to make mistakes. I know that I learn and remember better when I do something wrong first, and it is silly to expect children to do anything right the first time. We should be giving them an abundance of learning materials and opportunities to make a zillion mistakes.”
