Martha Wakefiel, before becoming a painter, studied fashion design at University of Vermont and Fashion Institute of Technology (New York City). After a career in New York’s fashion industry, she moved to Boston and started her own fashion consulting business. This provided opportunities to return to her avocation in art. She studied painting with Wolf Kahn, Jon Imber and Skip Lawrence, who inspired her color perception and composition. Her paintings have won many awards and are in private & corporate collections in the US and Canada.
She is represented by Powers Gallery of Massachusetts. Her paintings have been featured in The Palette Magazine, in Wild Apples: A Journal of Nature, Art and Inquiry and on book covers for Splash, Plein Air Poetry 2016 and Shadow and Light, A Literary Anthology on Memory. A staff writer for The Palette Magazine since 2008, she writes about technique and artists.
