Cathead Rattan Basket 1F24

Age Group:
Teens, Teens (17+), Adults

Challenge yourself to create an intricate woven basket in this 4-hour basket-weaving workshop.

The Cathead basket can be a bit challenging to shape as it requires much attention to detail.  Previous rattan experience is recommended.

This cute four-foot basket would be great in any room or on the table holding muffins.   It’s a 6”x6” woven base which extends out to a 10” diameter.

Join a creative, supportive craft-making space and build your weaving skills.

I took the wicker basket class with William, and I enjoyed it, so I signed up for the Cathead class.  While I know that I am never going to be an avid basket weaver, William is such a pleasure to learn from because his passion and knowledge about the craft comes through so clearly.  I come away from his classes feeling like I really learned something, and no matter how challenging the experience, I should hold my head up when walking away with my finished product. As long as William continues to offer classes at Eliot, I'll be signing up :-)

This workshop was both focused and fun - a rare combination. We learned a lot and there was great camaraderie.  William is an expert in this fiber art and an excellent teacher who builds confidence along with imparting knowledge!

William Krier

William Krier

Born and raised among the Amish community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, William Krier developed an interest in the art of basket weaving and has been practicing this art since the 1980's. He enjoys the challenge that wicker basketry brings. Using a variety of agents from commercial dyes to nut hull stain to teas, William dyes and stains all of his own reed.

Weaving traditional baskets using bright colors is William's way of contemporizing the art of basket making.
