In this fast-paced workshop, you will cut dovetail joints along with mortise and tenon joints using hand tools and power tools. You will use hand tools and power tools to shape a unique, ergonomic handle. Well-cut dovetail joints are incredibly strong even without glue, their mechanically-interlocked parts have long been signifiers of fine craft. Each student will leave the workshop with a beautifully made, functional, customizable toolbox.

Pysanky, a traditional Ukrainian egg-decorating technique, uses layers of wax and colored dye to achieve beautiful, complex designs. In time for Easter, learn color layering, localized application, and use of different tool sizes for varied results. At the end, remove the wax to reveal the finished egg. 

In this workshop we will cover the design, carving and finishing of a wooden kitchen spoon using hand tools. This is a great class for someone wanting to get started with woodcraft with no prior experience necessary.

For kids that want to learn or build upon the basics of woodworking. Students will build projects in wood with hand tools and techniques in an environment that emphasizes creativity and safety.

Explore the fun and diversity of printing from a gelatin plate. Learn techniques including silhouette, subtractive/additive, and overprinting. Create one-of-a-kind monotype prints on various papers.

For students that want to learn or build upon sewing basics. Students sew by hand and machine, cut patterns, and develop their own personal sewing kit. They will begin by sewing bags, pillows, and simple clothing.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the fundamental process of creating your own watercolor paints from scratch like artists of the past. This will include grinding pigments, mixing with a binder, and formulating their desired color palettes.

Join a studio away from home with sewing machines, tools (like silicone cutting mats, rotary fabric cutters, embroidery needles), supplies (like buttons, pattern paper) mentorship, and a community that will help you make your project a reality. Ideate, brainstorm, problem-solve, and execute in a joyful, inclusive environment.

Students will become familiar with the foundations of drawing and painting techniques paired with particular attention to figure drawing and art history. Students will walk away with awareness of shape, line, composition, proportion drawing, art history context, and handling of drawing and painting materials.

Our April Vacation Program offers instruction in two media: visual arts and woodworking. Students will be placed in two groups by age: 6-8 and 9-12.

We’ll be covering the basics you need to begin your drawing journey! We’ll be talking about drawing from shapes, sketching places and figures, basic perspective, light and shadow, and more! Be prepared to explore visual concepts.

A basic watercolor class for beginners.

If you need to learn how to use a sewing machine for the first time, Basic Sewing is for you. 

Learn how to operate a sewing machine, learn basic sewing terms, sewing methods and tools of the trades in order to choose, read and understand patterns.

This class is designed for weavers and wanna be weavers of all levels. No previous experience is necessary. Although if you have previously taken a class with Dahlia, it may be time to try a something new.

In this course we will briefly touch on metallurgy, plane iron geometry, the definition of sharpness and techniques for controlling the aforementioned subjects. Attendees will bring in tools that need to be sharpened and some will be provided for those who don't have tools. We will focus on how to sharpen straight blades (plane Irons and chisels primarily.) In doing so, students will learn how to use bench grinders to rough out the geometry of their irons and the next steps of polishing and honing on water stones. Students will walk away with the knowledge of sharpness and how to attain it which is a critical and fundamental skill in woodworking, particularly when dealing with hand tools. If they brought in a tool of their own they will also walk away with a well tuned tool and the knowledge to maintain it.

In this 6 week class, students will learn a variety of stitches and decorative embroidery techniques and be able to complete larger, more indepth projects. Participants will learn how to add images, textures, and dimension to a flat piece of fabric. Students will then create an artwork based on imagery that inspires them, or in the abstract, using these new embroidery techniques. Students will also learn to incorporate different mediums including small embroidered earrings and accessories! 

In this 2-day workshop we will take wood from a rough state to a finished charcuterie board. We will cover wood selection, design, shaping, carving, sanding, and finishing. 

In this workshop, Erik will discuss how to streamline your workflow as you prepare images of your artwork for submission to exhibitions and contests, so that you are putting your best foot forward and maximizing your success rate.

Storytelling Through Jewelry Making is a two-day beginner-friendly workshop where participants will create a brooch inspired by a personal story, memory, or idea. Through guided lessons, explore pattern design, basic color theory, and embroidery techniques to bring your designs to life.

Create unique prints using oil-based water-soluble inks and a portable etching press. Organic materials and found objects such as eggshells, leaves, feathers, meshes, and bubble wrap introduce texture and compositional surprises to your piece.

In this class, we will take rough lumber through the steps of milling, shaping, gluing, and finishing to create a splined miter frame! We will also cover cutting plexiglass and backing board to create a product ready for install.
