Teaching Visual Art 1F22

Age Group:
Teens (17+), Adults

Join in for a discussion of drawing and the practice of teaching this medium.

The class is open to all who are curious about teaching drawing and talking about drawing in its various forms. While art instructors might find this particularly interesting, those who are starting teaching or looking to start may also find this workshop helpful.

Drawing had long been considered a starting place for painting and sculpture, but over the past many decades has grown into an important medium of its own.

Everyone has the ability to draw; many loved to draw as kids, but somehow lost touch with the magic they felt when they were young. A good teacher can help facilitate this process of connecting to drawing again.

Topics will include the variety of ways that artist use drawing in their practice, and the multitude of ways that drawing can be taught.

Some instructors stress the craft of drawing and some focus on the expressionist possibilities. We will talk about observational drawing, interpretive drawing, abstract drawing and how these and other approaches can be taught.

Bring your questions and be ready to engage in this fun evening of dialogue!

Robert Siegelman will helm this educational workshop.  Robert is a photographer and printmaker who taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, for nearly 40 years.  He works with artists privately, and leads workshops and classes throughout New England.

*This workshop will take place at the Eliot School Annex, 253 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain
