Family Watercolor Seascapes 1W25
Have you ever seen a sunset over the ocean and you wish you could paint it right there? This intergenerational course will teach you how to use watercolors to make a seascape composition. The students can either use the reference image provided by the instructor or bring their own. All levels of experience are welcome!
The goal of this course is to understand how to re-create the dynamic atmosphere of the sea, movement of the water and reflection of the light. We will dedicate time to understanding how to paint the clouds in different weather and solar exposure. The course will include instruction on how to use wet-on-wet and dry-on-wet technique, glazing and layering the color evenly, and creating white reflections.
At the end of class, the students will understand how to set up a seascape composition, show perspective accurately, and use watercolors to portrait the sea and the sky. First, the students will make multiple smaller sketches while trying out different techniques and practicing their hand, and the second part of the class will be dedicated to making one final seascape.
This workshop is open to all ages. Anyone under 18 years of age must accompanied by an adult.

Materials to bring to class:
- Watercolor paint (at least a set of 12 colors)
- Watercolor brushes (1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small brush)
- Watercolor paper. Note, typically, watercolor paper is thicker to be able to hold more water. The density of 300 gms/140lbs is preferred(usually specified on every sketchbook), but 200 gms/110 lbs paper will do
