Summer Studios: Intro to Digital Photography 1M25 (Ages 9-12)
Intro to Digital Photography will expose students to foundational photo techniques and the creation of a body of work. Drawing and writing prompts will guide students in their image making process.
At the end of the week, students will have a series of 6-10 photographs printed as image transfers. Image transfers are an alternative photographic process that moves the ink from a digital print onto another surface. This creates a painterly effect, allowing the artist's photographic eye and artistic hand to merge into one form. Their prints will connect to larger ideas and themes they have constructed in relation to their personal memories.
Students will walk away with a body of work and understanding of color correction, contrast, and brightness, natural and artificial lighting techniques.
Jessie James
Jessie James is an educator and lens-based artist in the greater Boston area. She received her BFA in Photography from Lesley University. Her work investigates universal themes of adolescent memory and has been exhibited nationally. As an educator, she practices an approach that prioritizes an inclusive and sociocultural framework applied to her content and relationships with learners. She has assisted studio classes in higher education and continues to lead her own courses and workshops at several non-profits around Boston. Jessie currently works at the Museum of Fine Arts as a Community Arts Liaison, at the Eliot School, and is the Gallery Manager of Chase Young Gallery. She aims to expose learners to new modes of making and provide guidance when connecting creativity with personal histories.
