Summer Studios: Personalize Your Wardrobe! 1M25 (Ages 10-14)
Within this week long intensive, students will create accessories and garments, personalizing their wardrobe through a variety of fibers and fashion approaches. Students will create their own personalized keychains using needle and wet felting techniques, learn how to use natural elements to dye and alter cloth, and up-cycle their wardrobe through beading, dye and garment reconstruction approaches. Students will develop crochet and sewing skills through projects focusing on personal style, and will understand how to construct many types of bags and accessories.
Students will walk away with a myriad of craft skills, including needle felting, confidence regarding sewing machines, and the ability to piece together a garment of their own choosing using a mannequin. Students will have a variety of garments and accessories at the end of the week, depending on their interests. In addition, students will experience the unique environment of working in a studio setting among other student artists. Students will develop beading and embroidery methods that can be applied to fiber and mixed media arts.
Basic sewing skills are not required but may help. Beginners more than welcome, and this course will cater to all skill levels.
Nami Yamaguchi
Nami Yamaguchi is a Boston based artist and student at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Nami works primarily with fibers and mixed or found media, often textiles and metals. When not weaving or painting fabrics, Nami likes to make natural inks and dyes in her spare time, often trading them with other local artists for supplies or art.

Students should bring clothing they wish to alter with dye, embroidery, or beading techniques. This is optional, and is in the hope that we can provide a sustainable element to the course.
