Woodturning Foundations: Your First Turns 2W27
Curious about woodturning but not sure if it's the right craft for you? This introductory course is designed for absolute beginners and anyone looking to refresh the fundamentals.
Beginning with the safe operation of the lathe, you'll become familiar with the essential turning tools, proper body position, tool control, and the techniques used to shape wood with confidence. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you'll develop the foundational skills of spindle turning before applying them to a simple project of your choice.
Choose from a selection of beginner-friendly projects—such as a candlestick, pendant, decorative finial, ornament, set of knobs, or another small turned object—that reinforce these core skills while allowing room for individual creativity. This is a structured beginner course with instructor-approved project options; bowls, hollow forms, and independent projects are not part of this class.
No previous woodworking or woodturning experience is required. All materials are included.

Ken Lindgren
Ken Lindgren makes functional and abstract objects from trees that have fallen due to death, disease, storm or construction. A member of the American Association of Woodturners, he has taught wood turning at Fuller Craft Museum, the New England Woodturning Symposium and elsewhere. He sells his turned bowls and other works of wood art throughout New England. He has won sculpture awards at North River Arts Society Festival of the Arts and Bridgton Maine’s Art in the Park. His professional career was as a chemical engineer.
