New Urban Monuments: Community Lab @ Egleston Farmers Market
Join Eliot School Artist in Residence L’Merchie Frazier and our Teen Bridge artists at their Tell Us the Truth booth, at Egleston Farmers Market. Chime in with questions, thoughts, drawings and conversation envisioning monuments for our time.
Monuments stand to materialize memory and shape the American landscape. Recent calls for the literal destruction of certain public monuments respond to ideals for American democracy. These hard relics represent a divided America and frame challenges to democratic possibilities. Why do they remain to shape public memory in our neighborhoods and parks? How do we create new monuments that engage new ideas emerging from our communities? L’Merchie Frazier is working with Teen Bridge and community members this summer to create a body of public art that explores these questions.
