Dovetailed Wall Cabinet 1M25

Everyone needs a place to store things, why not level up your storage area and your woodworking skills by making a beautiful storage cabinet with traditional dovetail joinery? Dovetail joints have long been a sign of fine cabinetmaking; they look great, and they are incredibly strong. Learning to cut and fit dovetails teaches you so much about measuring and finessing fits. We will use power tools and hand tools in the class.
The cabinets will be made from poplar and hardwood plywood and you will leave the class with a small wall cabinet (about 20" high by 15" wide by 8" deep) that will be a useful addition to your living space or shop.
Part of the class will involve the addition of a shelf and a drawer to the cabinet, you can choose to dovetail the drawer or explore another type of joinery. Depending on your preferences, you can choose to design and create a pull for the drawer or you can purchase one.
In addition, the cabinet door will be made using a frame-and-panel technique. In short, the door will be a solid wood frame that "captures" a floating wooden panel. As with the drawer pull, you can design and create a pull/handle for the door. This class will immerse you in some of the most useful techniques in woodworking.
All lumber will be provided in class.
The cabinet will require hinges that you will need to purchase. You can choose to spend as little as $5 or as much as $60 (or more) on the hinges. The $5 hinges will work perfectly well and provide many years of service. The instructor will provide examples and discuss options.
If you would like to finish your cabinet, you will need to acquire the finish yourself. The instructor will demonstrate various finishes and provide samples. If you choose to apply a polyurethane (water-based or oil-based) finish or a Danish oil finish to your cabinet, that amount of finish can be acquired at a hardware store or home center for about $20.
