Eco-Dyeing Shirts 1F26
Transform thrifted or well-loved cotton clothing into one-of-a-kind textiles using the surprising art of discharge dyeing. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to plan and create designs using leaves, stencils, and painted elements, then use bleach to carefully discharge the color from the fabric and reveal your designs. Explore how placement, layering, timing, and the application of bleach affect the final result, and experiment with different approaches to create anything from simple botanical prints to more intricate compositions. Depending on the complexity of your designs, you’ll have time to transform 1–5 shirts or other cotton garments.
Working with bleach requires care and adequate ventilation, so this workshop takes place in the Eliot Schoolyard. Bring 1–5 cotton garments to transform. Dress for comfort and wear something that can get messy!
This workshop is for ages 6 and up. Participants under 12 must register with and be accompanied by an adult who is also participating in the workshop.

Ginny Zanger
Ginny Zanger is a watercolorist and printmaking working primarily in Yupo. Her work has been featured in Artscope Magazine and has been shown throughout the Greater Boston area and on Cape Cod. She is represented by the Copley Society, with a Copley Artist designation, and by the Cove Gallery (Wellfleet MA). She has been an artist-in-residence at Ten Acre School and at the Vermont Studio Center.
