Week 1: Super Hero Status • June 26th - June 30th
What are the powers we hold within us? How can we tap into our strength, and create art that reminds us of our power? In this week of the program we explore the things that make us wonderful, dynamic, capable beings, and use art to express the strength within. Students will use different mediums to create pieces that affirm their identities, highlight their creativity, and remind them of their power. In this week we’ll embrace what makes us strong and unique and discover the super hero within.

During this week, students will re-imagine infinite universes and societies with varied futures. They will create art that investigates how we want to live and where we want to go.

Week 3: Forest, Ocean, Air • July 17th - July 21th
The natural world is an integral part of the art making process, from the subjects we paint and the wood we build with to the pigments on our pallet and the clay we mold. We will explore how our natural world is changing and how we can use our artistic voices to make a difference. Using a wide range of materials and mediums, students will learn to follow sustainable art practices, and make artwork and structures that respect and reflect the landscapes in which we live.

This week is all about what moves and what makes noise. Some things could even do both at the same time! Do you ever feel like your body just wants to move like it’s a wet noodle? Do you ever just need to bang a pot with a ladle to feel heard? This week, we will build kinetic objects and make images that seem to move, and create art forms that make noise with a little help from us.

Week 5: Second Chance Studio • July 31st - August 4th
Back by popular demand! They say that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. What a shame to throw away an old milk carton or a toilet paper roll when it can be turned into something new. A piece of art, a toy,a new invention. This week’s theme is all about giving objects a second life. With materials you could find in recycling bin, to objects whose usable life has come to an end, we’ll keep out of the landfill and turn them into treasures we can keep for a lifetime.

Health & Safety
In an abundance of caution and to ensure the health and safety of all our students and teachers, our Summer Program will be a combination of indoor and outdoor programming this year.
• Classes will take place primarily inside our schoolhouse, with its new air exchange and filtration system, with limited classes activity occurring outdoors under tent canopies in the Eliot School yard.
• As the Eliot Policy stands now, students are required to be vaccinated, with proof of vaccination to be presented on the first day of each week. We will be reassessing our Mask/Vaccination policy in April 2023. More information about how masking and vax policies will work soon!
• Meal, snack, and play times will be held outdoors under our tent canopies whenever possible, and in our indoor spaces during weather contingencies.
