Ready to expand your sewing skills and tackle more advanced techniques? This intermediate-level course builds on foundational sewing knowledge while introducing construction methods that elevate the quality and finish of your projects. Learn how to sew professional seam finishes, install zippers, create buttonholes, make and repair pockets, and work from sewing patterns while exploring projects using knit fabrics.
Through guided practice and hands-on projects, students will strengthen their confidence using sewing machines while developing practical skills for garment sewing, repairs, and accessories. Students will complete projects such as a lined zipper pouch and/or a simple t-shirt while learning techniques that support more independent sewing in the future. Ideal for students who have completed a beginner sewing course or have basic sewing experience.
Students will pay a $40 material kit fee to the instructor on the first day of class.
Tricia Ryan
Tricia Ryan is a textile artist, maker, and educator with a background in sewn soft goods, hand stitching, mending, and textile design. Through her studio practice, Flax and Gather, she creates handmade textile work and teaches practical sewing and repair skills that encourage craftsmanship, creativity, and sustainability. Tricia has hand sewn historical garments for the National Park Service and organizes community mending initiatives in Boston. She brings decades of experience in facilitation, design, and hands-on learning to her teaching.
